2018 Fall- Tools Reflection

After creating my portfolios on both CUNY Blackboard platform and the CUNY Academic Commons, I think the Blackboard platform is easier to set up.The instructions for the blackboard platform are concise and clearly. There are several helpful symbols on the editing page to tell me where to add, delete, and edit the section. However, Blackboard layout has limit customize style, not too much options of the themes, simple color change only. Compare with Blackboard platform, CUNY Academic Commons is more complex. So I had to watch the instructional video (Lynda) first. The whole set of videos is necessary. Even the whole video takes more than 5 hours, it is useful. I found some general idea about how to use the website. I spent a long time to find out the “Dashboard (the main setting page)” showed in the instructional video. Then just followed the introduction, I created my website and added the artifact like the documents and multimedia to my sites easily. This website looks more customized than Blackboard platform, for example, I can change the themes and add background images for my sites. The only thing confuses me for both platforms is how to check the site visibility. I have to ask my classmate to help me checking whether my sites are visible.
